Why Structured Cabling is Important for Business Phones

27 Sep 2017

IT Support, Data Cabling,Atlanta GAIf your organization is considering a new VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) system, you should think about the structured cabling system needed to support it and maximize its potential. The following summarizes the advantages your digital phone system will have with a well-designed structured cabling system.

Decreased Noise

CAT 6 and CAT 6A cable provides more noise reduction than older cables. Fiber optic cabling is even better. Less noise resistance results in more static and faulty connections during phone conversations. Higher levels of noise also decrease network speed because the system is forced to retransmit data until it is no longer corrupted. Although purchasing lower quality cable saves money in the short run, it may result in long term business losses because of slower response times and annoyed customers.

Lengthened Runs

Higher quality cable will be capable of supporting longer runs that are free of artifacts and errors. Fiber optic cables are not restricted by the length of runs. It is the superior option for a data center or business telephone system because of its excellent noise resistance and high speed. Although second choices, CAT 5e to CAT 6A cabling are capable of supporting runs to 100 meters without noise. Cables that can support long runs provide greater flexibility for layouts, decreasing the need for data hubs or repeaters and increasing reliability.

Maintenance Savings

CAT 5e, CAT 6, and fiber optic cables are highly dependable. However, if they ever become faulty or the network needs to be reconfigured, a structured cabling system that is well organized and diligently marked will save time spent on maintenance. While a company’s network is down, business may be impacted, resulting in lost revenue. Tracing faults is made much easier by a sound structured cabling system.

Transmission Speed

Business is often time-sensitive, and you will want to use the highest quality cable your company can afford. CAT 6A cable is capable of supporting a maximum of 10 Gigabits per second while CAT 5e can only achieve 100 mbps. Older, less capable cables are not recommended because their slow data transmission and high noise levels cannot meet current VOIP demands.

Office Phone Relocation Project for GFI

13 Jul 2012

Global Financial Integrity is relocating to a new office space in Washington, DC. We are assisting by installing network, phone and fax cabling into the new office. Additionally, we are going to relocate the phone system. Verizon will bring the service (in the form of a 25-pair cable) into the building and into the office. But we will need to physically move the phone equipment and reconnect it.

The three major challenges are:

  • Disconnecting and moving the equipment

  • Mounting and reconnecting the equipment in the new office

  • Working with Verizon to make sure that dial tones are reaching every phone

Here are some pictures of the phone system before the move.

Constant Contact is Critical for Business Success

29 Jun 2011

Network Cabling, Data Cabling, Cat5e, Cat6/6a Cabling, voip Creating a happy and loyal customer base is difficult, if not impossible, without the ability to stay in contact. By upgrading from a traditional land line based phone system to a much more versatile VOIP phone system you can provide your employees with the communication platform they need for success.

Unlike traditional land line based business phone systems a voice over internet protocol system can easily be integrated with other methods of communication. With VOIP calls can be easily forwarded to cell phones and voice mail messages can easily be forwarded to e-mail inboxes. This allows employees to stay in contact with coworkers, vendors and customers regardless of their location. By facilitating communication between all parties involved in a business transaction VOIP makes it easier to instill confidence in customers and strengthen business relationships.

In addition to making communication easier upgrading to a VOIP phone system can also make office accounting operations easier. Instead of receiving multiple bills from different service providers for equipment, maintenance, long distance and overall usage the accounting department will only receive one simple bill per month.

An added bonus that goes along with minimizing the paperwork when it comes to billing is the fact that the total cost of VOIP is much smaller. Businesses who switch to VOIP service can expect all of the features and functions that they need for efficient communication at a savings of more than 50% compared to a traditional service. This makes VOIP a smart choice for any business that is looking to improve relationships at the same time that they work to improve their bottom line.

By upgrading your traditional business phone system to a VOIP phone system you can take your business portability to an entirely different level though.

When you upgrade your land line based phone service to a VOIP service you can literally take your office phone with you wherever you go. If there is a broadband internet connection available at your home, at your hotel or even at your vacation rental

A Major Change Doesn’t Have to Cause Headaches

17 Jun 2011

Network Cabling, Data Cabling, Cat5e Cat6/6a Cabling,VOIP PhoneMany small business owners are fearful of making major changes to their office operations due to the fact that the disruption could cause headaches and service issues. When it comes to upgrading to VOIP service from traditional phone service the switch is likely much simpler and stress free than most small business owners would believe.

The old adage, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” may make perfect sense in many situations relating to small business operations but making the switch to VOIP phone service certainly isn’t one of them. Upgrading to voice over internet protocol can be performed quickly and seamlessly and the potential benefits of VOIP make the switch completely worthwhile for any size business.

Upgrading to VOIP phone service in your office eliminates virtually all of the complex equipment that you are required to keep on site for proper operation of your traditional land line service. As this equipment is removed from your office the excessive leasing and maintenance costs are removed as well which results in a substantially smaller monthly phone bill.

VOIP phone service can be implemented into your office environment in as little as fifteen minutes once you’ve got the phones. This means that you won’t lose any precious time communicating with your customers during the transition. Upgrading your current phone system is a virtually hassle free way to enhance your ability to stay in contact with customers and coworkers and to dramatically lower your cost of office operations.

10 Jun 2011
Network Cabling Data Cabling Cat5e Cat6/6a CablingWe’ve talked a bit about just how much upgrading your current business phone system to a VOIP phone system can save you in terms of space and complexity of equipment.
